Position Summary:

The Nursing Assistant plays a vital role in providing high-quality, safe, and compassionate care to clients in their homes. Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, the Nursing Assistant assists clients with various activities of daily living, including personal care, light housekeeping, meal preparation, and social support.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Personal Care:
    • Assisting clients with personal hygiene, including bathing, showering, and toileting.
    • Assisting with dressing and grooming.
    • Assisting with continence care, including catheter care and bowel management.
    • Assisting with transfers and mobility, including using appropriate equipment such as hoists and walkers.
  • Domestic Assistance:
    • Light housekeeping duties, such as vacuuming, dusting, and laundry.
    • Meal preparation and assistance with feeding.
    • Grocery shopping and errand assistance.
  • Social Support:
    • Providing companionship and social interaction.
    • Assisting with communication, including making phone calls and reading correspondence.
    • Engaging clients in social activities and hobbies.
  • Client Observation and Reporting:
    • Monitoring clients’ condition and reporting any changes to the Registered Nurse.
    • Observing and documenting client behaviour and any concerns.
    • Maintaining accurate and timely client records.
  • Medication Administration (if applicable):
    • Assisting with medication reminders.
    • Observing medication administration (under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse).
  • Equipment Maintenance:
    • Ensuring the cleanliness and proper functioning of equipment used in client care
  • Professional Development:
    • Participating in ongoing professional development activities to maintain and enhance skills and knowledge.
    • Adhering to all relevant legislation, regulations, and company policies.
    • Quality, Safety, Risk and Improvement
    • Maintain an understanding of individual responsibility for patient safety, quality & risk and contribute to organisational quality and safety initiatives
    • Follow organisational safety, quality & risk policies and guidelines
    • Maintain a safe working environment for yourself, your colleagues and members of the public.
    • Escalate concerns regarding safety, quality & risk to appropriate staff member, if unable to rectify yourself.
    • Promote and participate in the evaluation and continuous improvement processes.
    • Comply with principles of Patient Centred Care.
    • Comply with Agility Health mandatory continuous professional development requirements.
    • Comply with requirement of National Safety & Quality Health Service Standards and other relevant regulatory requirements.
  • Essential Criteria:
    • Certificate III in Aged Care or equivalent qualification.
    • Current First Aid and CPR certification.
    • Current Police Check.
    • Current National Police Check (if required by the state/territory).
    • NDIS Worker Clearance Check
    • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Compassionate and empathetic nature.
    • Ability to work independently and as part of1 a team.
    • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality2 and client privacy.
    • Right to work in Australia
    • Current driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (highly desirable).
  • Desirable Criteria:
    • Experience working with people living with dementia or other chronic illnesses.
    • Experience in palliative care.
    • Knowledge of infection control and hygiene practices.
    • Understanding of cultural diversity and sensitivity.
